Let me first say that it is difficult to sit down and critique commercials when I usually never watch television. Although I didn't see a lot of ads that I thought were necessarily stereotypical, but there were a few that stuck out to me.
The first one I saw was a Subway commercial in which a female customer orders a combo meal at a competetor fast food chain. The customer then asks the cashier what comes with the meal and he lists a number of traits a women wouldn't want in herself. I think one of the things was low self-esteem and more things in the same category. This is obviously discouraging the viewer to buy at the competetors chain because you would receive these things along with your meal. I think this commercial is extremely clever. It seems like it is appealing to women especially. Women tend to have insecurities caused by image. I think that the stereotyping is subtle but there.
I will have to watch more television and re-post this later! sorry!
